Cold Damaged Agaves

I have agave of many sorts all over my land. They are supposed "Cold Hardy/ wet tolerant" sorts; but all things have their limits. I yanked many of the smaller ones and brought them inside for the event but I missed some and some where too large to yank. some Agave bracteosa with a cold rating of 15º under a tree on a hill did fine but under a tree protected by the house on a flat were damaged. Some Agave striata did fine in one place were blighted in another.

I have done nothing in other cold front healing periods and lost agaves so this time I am going to be pro active as much as possible wether that is the right thing to do or not. I have seen plants die that only have a little rot so I am now yanking the ones that I missed that are stressed if they are small enough to do so and letting them dry out. The A. Bracteosa are easy to deal with in this way. I have some more trimming to do on this. I am letting the roots callous before I insert it back into the soil. I have 20 ones that were yanked before the storm to plant.

I am confused what to do with the striata. The blighted leaves seem to still be getting worse. They are large for yanking but I might. My largest one; the 6' clump is thankfully un mares. I am wondering if I should cut the damage off at the base of the leaf or just at the damage. This is a A. striata "live Wire"

A very mature 7' x 8' Agave porto- Americana that I call Bubba got bit bad. I have no idea if what I am doing will work . I have cut all the leaves off and dusted them with sulfur. What a lot of poundage of mush. I need to wheel barrow the stuff somewhere far away because I hear they stink bad as they rot.

This was my treatment to some salmiana - ferox.

This seems to be the treatment that I am going for. Cut'em and dust'em. Its the new pineapple look. They will die without it from past experience with other agaves that I have had get stressed. These agave have NEVER been stressed before. . Will they live with this treatment? ... I do not know. It might be a false hope or an act of faith or just a gamble. I am going for it. If they die; I am that much closer to digging them out and removing them.
