Marc Chagall anyone?

So I got a bunch of striped and brighter colored Rose's from Palentine and looks like I have lost a few. Thinking about replacements and came across Marc Chagall and wondering about black spot resistance and fragrance. Anyone growing?

Mine was new last season and I don’t get much black spot so I can’t speak to that, but it was free of rust and PM. Fragrance was little to none for me.

I was browsing my grocery store's garden area last year when I spotted Marc C all alone in a corner. I'm still shocked and bewildered that a new Delbard found it's way to Fred Meyer's. It grew and bloomed all summer. No disease here in this dry climate. Strong, upright, bushy growth. The fragrance has a powdery quality to it. Mine produced all types of variegated blooms. Some with more deep pink and some mostly creamy, and some that looked more like Nick's, above - my favorite. Similar to the much sought after Candace.

I thought it grew and bloomed well, had a nice refined form and was more subtle than most stripes. Fragrance was only slight to moderate.

There was quite some variation in color. We saw patio tree roses of Marc at Costco near the chuck roasts, so you never know where he might show up. We got one of each , rose and roast.

Mine was first year in the garden last season, I don’t spray anymore except for dormant oil, and it was pretty bad for blackspot. It basically defoliated except I had to strip the leaves myself because it hung on to them and it looked terrible. But again, first year for me, blackspot is bad bad here, and I haven’t even thought about moving it yet because I’m hoping it’s something MC will grow out of because I love the subtle striping.

Ugh I hate being that guy that rains on the parade. Also I overplant everything so maybe it’s that and you’ll have a better time.

@Katherine OK zone 7b I too can relate to overplanting- I just keep packing it in! haha

Right?! I’ve done been full up for a minute now, and yet I keep ordering, and smushing it in, and ordering, and smushing it in 😂

Well...I overpack too! And Houston in BS heaven..but I'm fairly tolerant

@ladybug A 9a Houston area I‘ll make sure to update this year to redeem MC if applicable, I’m really rooting for it ... I miiight even pack less annuals at its feet. Maybe.

Katherine, you're not raining on anyone's parade...it is just good to hear how a rose does in different locales.

I bought Mr. Chagall from Regan's and was really happy with the blooms. The plant is still in a pot. I'd like to know how big it gets.

All these pictures are so diffferent. It seems it doesn't just crank out cookie cutter blooms, which makes it interesting to me.

@erasmus_gw Mine is from Regan’s, too, and I agree, the variability is amazing. I’d also love to know mature height if anyone has had it that long.

I agree it was one of the most variable blooms I’ve had , sometimes I had to think twice about which variety I had planted in its spot. But what I like is that it always looked nice...never thin petaled or too small in the heat, always a quality bloom.

Here's how variable mine is, if Houzz will let me post pics. I tried yesterday, but it wasn't working. I hope it settles down to the Candace-like bloom that Nick posted.

I'm afraid I don't have any useful information to contribute, but I just thought I'd say that I'm trying Marc Chagall this year for the first time. The color variation looks significant, but that won't be a problem. He'll be over in the stripey bed with Neil Diamond and they can be weird together.

Mine, in it's second summer with me, also had blackspot, despite spraying, and I can detect no fragrance, plus the blooms so far are on the small side. That said, they are gorgeous. So poor Marc is teetering on the edge of the shovel, I really have trouble deciding whether he should stay, or make room for something more fragrant.

With color like that, I would-keep him
