Does this couch match?

Would this couch go with the rug? I can't decide if it would work in the space.

If not what color would you suggest if any?

Like the rug, the sofa not so much. The rug options are from Rugs-Direct.com

Do you think the navy color they offer it in would look nice? Or would it then be too dark for the space? Those are north facing windows.

The sofa does not look to be of good quality. Look at the back cushions of the display model. If you are buying West Elm furniture, look for items labeled “contract grade”. The quality will be better. I’m not liking the mustard color either, btw.

Mustard sofa definitely does not work. A blue or gray would be much better with the carpet.

Bummer. We've been trying to find a couch that matches this rug for the living room. Anyone have a suggestion on one that might work?

We've been looking at West Elm as the outlet is near us so there are good deals if you're willing to wait for the right thing to show up. Thanks @Carolae for the tip!

Definitely think navy is a better option. Much more versatile. Are there any other color choices ? Or any other couches you like?

Your sofa is the investment. Take off the back cushions and the bolsters and take another photo. It is a great look.

    Rug, is nothing special.

Try a rug with darker tones.

@HU-187528210 It comes in a navy, gold, green (BF doesn't like the green), and a gray. I'm wondering if the gray is just too boring? Was thinking color might be nice.

We haven't found another sofa we loved yet, but can continue just using the lawn chairs in the living room until we find one :)

The space is a bit small so trying to find something with some style that isn't just blocky, small, but not so small that a 6'3 guy can't lay on it

Northern have casual velvety sheen, legs with gold finish, or silvery, etc.. mercury lamps.

I think it depends on the shape? This one had already been scooped up from the outlet. Wish I got the chance to sit on it before it was sold as it looked nice:

@Beth H. : I had looked at those but had mixed feeling about purchasing it online without sitting on it first. How soft/supportive do you find it?

Sorry. added this to my comment. don't know if you caught it.

this pacific blue is perfect (or the navy from above)

Someone likes muted yellows and greens... so here's their pair for an idea: pearl grey and golden oak. You can pick so many colors. Some might ask whether you prefer the greys or the beiges for neutrals...? this pair brings them together.. hmm. leather chair ...

Doodle, It's very nice. sturdy. I've got the leather, so it may wear a bit better than velvet. Any type of velvet is going to wear out before leather.

the chair is nice too. and the bench.

why not look at the blue leather option?

In Beth's place :) she has a golden pillow and it's a nice accent, and doesn't have to be with dark sofa... I get the northern exposure and it's drab...

Stone a good neutral and soft contrast with floor, etc...

if you get tired in years, could have a texture room / charcoal-white, or pumpkin or red --

@everdebz lol we do! I'm wondering if we're over green-ing the house though. The doorway heads into the kitchen and we have the ikea bodarp cabinets. I think we're more gray base then beige.

@Beth H. : Not sure if I can sell the BF on leather. I initially looked at it because our dog tends to be on the couch. I do like that pacific blue!! But am wondering if our house is going to end up all green :P

well, I always put a throw down on the sofa. that black one is in the other room. the main sofa for tv is another one I had custom made. it's a velvet material. I never sit on it without a throw blanket. I'd suggest doing the same if you let the pup up there.

as for color, they do have a tweed in an aqua

the darker blues are also nice

Or, you could always just do the pebble gray,

and do the pacific blue chair.

this dark blue and walnut is nice. I have this chair in the Gray mist. it's very comfortable.

    or get the ottoman

look at the Gallery of uploaded pictures under the sofa, and ottoman heading. people submit their pics and it gives you an idea

and you get 30 days to try it out to see if you like it

looking through the pics, the Sven Charme sofa (camel leather) is the most popular.

same one that I have in the black. the stitching is very well done.

so here are some pics of the Pacific blue

    beautiful color

    the gold one

and the Sven Birch Ivory This might be a good neutral to use.

The flooring is new and we like it a lot!

Thank you both for all the research images. I have a lot more googling and pulling of images to do myself it seems :P

Besides article and west elm, do you have any suggestions of where else one might search for a modern couch? I'll obviously google it as well, but as far as quality is concerned I"m open to suggestions.

When you bought the rug, did you have a main color palette, or accent color in mind?

I was thinking/hoping a jewel tone couch would work, or I guess a lighter gray and then I'll need to determine how to get some color into the rest of the room, through pillows, chairs, ect. I did see this image and was thinking the yellow was nice.

Have you heard of/sat on Calligaris?

I thought this one looked nice. There is an overwhelming number of fabric choices.

I like the gold West Elm sofa with the rug you show.

This is not your rug, athough it has a couple of the colors. and is also an abstract. Your rug is better, though

I see you have a black end table and some black detail would be good with that sofa and rug combo.

Or with the black end table, a lamp like this could also be fun. Pics below from customer reviews.

That rug visualizer is neat thank you @freedomplace1.

The end table that is currently in the room just so there's something to put cups and whatnot on. It's a $5 table we've had from ikea for probably 5 years so it can go live in the basement at this point :P

I do have this coffee table from BF grandparents, but the veneer is fairly damaged so we'll need to finish and are waiting on deciding a bit more about the room before we decide how

Doodle, my friend is planning to install a Bodarp kitchen, can you share pictures of yours?

Sure, it's a bit of a mess right now as we're finishing the top trim piece in the next day or so and havent removed all of the plastic

The couch can be a big financial and long term commitment. Can‘t comment on Calligaris, but the concept of being able to pick the style, choose from a ton of fabrics and most importantly be able to inquire about construction is the way to go. I’ve had three custom couches cover the years and it really resolves so much.

    I‘d lean towards a blue.

if you happen to live in Ontario, Calligaris has a clearance store on King Street in Toronto.

Hmmmm. I am not. Interesting that they're advertising themselves as Italian if they're a Canadian company

I think we may be leaning towards a blue and doing brighter throw pillows then. BF is still voting for gray, but I think it might be a little boring. We've done custom wooden furniture but never upholstered. I'll have to look and see what might exist around here.

@deeinohio I have seen this which has made me a bit skeptical. Do you have any recommendations on where to find a modern looking sofa?

A designer recommended Room & Board to me. I haven’t bought a sofa from them, but I did buy a sofa table and an end table. I’m pleased with both. They have a reputation for good customer service.

    User thanked Carolae

@User Sorry. I lean more transitional/traditional, but I would echo the opinion of looking for an older piece and reupholstering it exactly as you want.

If you want custom, expensive, and/or a sofa that you are going to be looking at for 10-20 years, this one might not be for you. But it is one that I am planning to purchase for my new place. Reviews are good, including one review from a professional stager, who is planning to take this inventory piece home to use in her own house, when she retires in a couple of years. Available from Wayfair. Only available in this grey. Throw pillows included. 600 bucks.

Wayfair also carries a ton of sofas by Lexington, btw, if you want to spend several thousand, it's available.

Thanks! I think we're open to an expensive long term sofa, or an inexpensive shorter term one. It just depends on what we find that we love. I understand that we'll need to pay proportional to the quality we're expecting, but we need to find one first!
