Thanks for your response. It was my mistake to assume they would finish it similar to the old window they replaced. They thought it would be redundant to add a roof to the bow window now that it’s under a porch roof.

+1. No reason for there to be a roof kit installed.

No practical reason for a roof, but aesthetically something else needs to be done.

What type of support was used? Most modern bay and bow units come with cables or chains to support the weigh of the window from above as opposed to the braces underneath. If that system was used, that would explain why something was needed over the top of the window. Good that they are willing to rework if you don't like it, make sure that you fully understand exactly what they propose as a solution so you don't end up with something else that you don't like.

Thanks, I understand the window was bolted into the wall on all sides, top and bottom, so that extra support wasn’t needed. When they return to redo, I will ensure it is properly supported before they disassemble. I’ve tentatively decided in a small back “roof” to tie aesthetically to the black shutters.

Update: Contractor returned yesterday and rebuilt the window trim. It took three skilled men 6 hours, but I’m happy with the outcome.
