Climbing roses for a long fence

We are having a cold a changeable April, and instead of preparing the kitchen garden for sowing I am spending far too much time contemplating roses for my long fence/free-standing espalier.
The idea is to buy or diy a sturdy arch for the central gateway to the kitchen garden. To the left of the gate are two espaliered pear trees that came with the house, so they are staying put. To the left is a 5,5 m (17 feet) long fence with room for a number of climbing roses. The fence is 6,5 feet tall.
I have lots of ideas, but since I am still a novice rose grower I am looking for your advice on which might be suitable - and might suit each other. The climate in my part of Denmark is mild, zone 8a/8b and is comparable to coastal Britain, I think.
I found some of Campanulas old posts about her Mme Gregoire Staechelin, and I am contemplating the Madame for the arch. To the right I am thinking of spacing the climbers 4 feet apart, which means space for three roses. I have a weakness for Geschwind roses for some reason (have Erinnerung an Brod and El Areana in my front yard) and also really like heavy, globular roses. What doesn't inspire me at all is the typical Hybrid Tea shape.

The flower shape and colour scheme I am contemplating. The garden is looking sad in early April.

This sounds like a wonderful combination! Fantastic choices. My only idea would be to say, if this garden were mine and if the fence were very sunny I would order Annie Laurie McDowell from Bierkreek next year as soon as they list it, and include it as one of my choices. I only have a tiny one in a pot right now, so I can't speak from experience -- but I've enjoyed other people's photos and experiences of this rose for years.

Oh, Annie Laurie McDowell looks lovely! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. How wonderful that it is available in Europe. I wish more of Kim Rupert's and Paul Barden's roses were sold here. There is a demand, I have seen "Marianne" mentioned acouple of times, for instance.

I think Annie could be great on the left side of the arch, though we do have some trees that cast shadow during the morning. Is is better in full sun, I wonder? That would mean placing it on the fence somewhere. And it is fragrant too I think?

I think your climate is a bit like mine -- probably she is going to do best will full sun in these conditions (costal climate, not too hot, plenty of rain in the winter). Sheila's seems to be in really full sun and it looks happy. This rose is said to be fragrant -- I am waiting anxiously to see for myself, as mine is new and is very small. I might let it bloom once to satisfy my curiosity, and then start disbudding it to get it to grow faster.
