Congratulations on the new washing machine, Rose! We also recently got a new Maytag fl washer and also dryer. I like it very much. We had a top loading washer for many years and it was at least 30 years old. The washer salesman told us that in order to avoid a musty smelling washing machine, to leave the door open when not being used and to "blot" the rubber inner lining to dry. I thought it was just Maytag that had issues with musty odor, but my niece apparently has an LG fl and this has happened to her. I like that the washer uses less water and clothes get very clean. Laundry takes a shorter time to dry, too, with less moisture.

I leave the dispenser compartment and the door ajar after washing. No mold problems. A white vinegar 'wash' now and then is another aid.

Musty odor is not confined only to frontloaders. Toploaders also are susceptible. I visited my nephew & wife recently. Their 22yo agitator toploader (not Maytag) was exhibiting a strong sour/swampy odor. I advised them to run two doses of washer cleaner through it. His mother (my sister) had the same problem (musty, not sour) with a 1984 toploader. She complained about difficulty finding a detergent to make their clothes smell clean (read that: to cover the odor). I work on washers & dryers as a hobby/sideline for family, friends, & acquaintances. I cleaned up two "old-style" Whirlpool toploaders a couple months ago that both had a bad odor and a bunch of nasty residue under the inner drum where it couldn't be seen or accessed without disassembly.

Looks great, Rose! We bought a new w/d set a few years ago, and I was trying to decide between a Maytag and LG. Ended up with the LG (top load) set but only because it had some features that fit my needs better. I was not shopping for any particular brand...just features I liked. These new machines, regardless of brand, won't last 22 years.

I did look at SQ but the selection wasn't good, and I didn't see anything that really suited me.

ETA - I've always had top loaders and never had a mold/odor problem.

Looks very nice. I hope you like it and get good service out of it. I am limited on the depth I can use which really limits my choices.

Rose, I"m glad you got the Maytag. Just do warm, hot, and sanitize washes. I've had my Whirlpool front loader 10 years this coming December. I've had no musty odors at all and I use powder, liquid detergent, and fabric softener. I only wash with those 3 temperatures I stated. I also don't use the normal cycle as that's the cycle that is used to give the machine its Energy Star rating. Water temperatures are dumbed down and it uses the least amount of water. Not effective in my book. I also leave the door ajar and the dispenser drawer pulled out just a bit between loads. Also, FYI, the Speed Queen Front loader is about the same size as your old Neptune, or just a bit larger.

I leave the lid open on ALL washing machines, when not in use. No harm in that. It's a BEAUTIFUL machine Rose!

I got rid of a 6 year old Kenmore top load because it smelled. I went out and bought a Speed Queen top load and within 6 months it smelled. Turns out it was the liquid detergent. Since I went back to powders, no more stink!

I had a front loader (Westinghouse! ) 35+ years ago. I really liked it. When front loaders started reappearing on the home appliance market, they were so expensive that I never got another. My Whirlpool top loader is now at least 25 years old and still chugging along - I don't do anything special and have never had an odor problem. My SIL did, but she also had a great deal of detergent etc buildup - I suspect that she overused detergent, because that is also a problem I've never had.
