Could be a Burdock.

Yes Arctium species. If the stems are solid it's Arctium minus, if they are hollow, Arctium lappa. There is a 3rd species, A. tomentosum, which has hollow stems and has distinct hairy flower parts. The roots and peeled stems are edible, but not the leaves.

I did plant gobo there last year but they never came up!

Gobo is Arctium lappa, burdock. You're making me hungry for it, tho I've never tried it yet. I want to do it in a hearty soup Lol.. Has anyone noticed the distinctive veining in the leaves, they all fork out about halfway to the margins. I haven't paid much attention to them, and I've lumped them all together. It would be cool to compare the species type lappa to the tomentosum.
