Hi, everyone. How kind of you to remember. I’m doing really well. My surgery was a week ago today. I left the hospital on Friday. I’m not taking any drugs for pain, although my butt and thighs feel sore and stiff. I walked up and down steps the day after surgery. It’s really quite amazing. The procedure removed much arthritic bone growth that had narrowed the channels my nerves were passing through and then fused the L4, L5 and S1 vertebrae with titanium rods and screws. My rehab is simply to walk and keep walking. No bending, lifting or twisting for three months until the bone has grown and fused. It’s hard to watch the flowers emerging, but not be able to dig around, but it will all be worth it. Thanks again for your concern.

So glad to hear all went so well! I know the garden is calling to you, but missing one season will be worth it once you are all better. Are you able to quilt, or is bending over the machine prohibited?

Lois, I'm glad to hear all went well! Just keep doing what they tell you to do and you'll be good as new soon.

Lois, Glad to hear you're doing well and following orders. I can understand it being difficult when you've always been active, but you're being wise in thinking about the end result. lol Can you sit and handsew?

So glad you made it through so well. I think of you often as we soon leave for your favorite spot with Don and Nancy again. Remember the big banyan tree. It will be good to get back. I hope your back lets you still sew.

I went to my surgeon for a two-week, post-op X-ray and exam, and everything is progressing well. It's strange to see your own X-ray with these long screws and rods in your spine, along with your bra hooks and underwires. They were amazed at how well I was walking and that I hadn't taken anything for pain, not even Tylenol, in over a week. I still have a long way to go. I have very little stamina, but baby steps, as they say.

I bought a new chair today, so I can sew at a correct seat height. The hydraulics on my old chair were shot, and I was sitting way too low. I have two baby showers to attend within the next month, but I don't have a quilt ready for them. I have one almost ready for quilting, but I've always glue-basted my quilts on the floor, and I won't be doing that for a while yet. I'll have to figure out an alternative method.

Linda, enjoy your trip to Maui. I'll imagine you sitting under Lahaina's banyan tree. I do miss being there. I hope to return one of these days.
