Can someone identify this weed? I live in Phoenix, AZ.

This weed sprouts in the spring in Phoenix. During the summer, it becomes extremely coarse and thorny. It spreads like crazy and is taking over lawns in our neighborhood. Anyone know a herbicide that wipes it out? Thanks!
