The nice thing about short apron sinks is that the bottom of the apron lines up with the bottom of the adjacent drawer. How large is your sink base cabinet please? You've got to have a 36" to get an Elkay Quartz Luxe, a sink I highly recommend. They come single bowl only; another recommendation.

I am building this kitchen from the ground up! Actually my husband is building it, I'm outfitting it! So I don't have a sink base yet. I have seen your recommendations for Elkay in other Houzz postings. The design firm I am using does not carry that manufacturer. But in addition to that, I don't see an Elkay color that I like. They are either too light (worried about stains), or too dark. I did order the Elkay samples and I very much like the material based on a small piece, but I need a medium tone option and they don't seem to carry one. May I ask why you recommend Elkay over Blanco?

The thing is, as soon as you chose the granite composite Silgranit material, you no longer have a traditional look. That's the bottom line. If you truly want a traditional look, you should get the Kohler Whitehaven short apron sink. But if you are OK with a non-traditional look, then between the two you mentioned, I prefer the Vintera. The Ikon angled front bugs me.

As a side note, I would not be confined to buying just what the design firm you are working with offers. It's your kitchen. You will be living with this for years after the design firm has moved on and forgotten you. You should be able to get what you want. If there's another sink you like that they don't carry, carve out the sink purchase from the firm's scope of work, and buy it yourself. Make sure to buy it from an authorized dealer so you don't have to worry about warranty or shipping damages.

I agree with your thoughts about the look of a traditional farm sink - but I'm choosing to go with white shaker for all of my perimeter cabinets. Given that choice, I'm not a fan of a white sink with white cabinets. I prefer to have some contrast. I also appreciate your thoughts about going with a different manufacturer. We chose to pay for our design so that we wouldn't be bound by purchasing items through the firm exclusively. I would strongly consider the Elkay if they had a mid-tone color that I liked (there are also concerns about which garbage disposal fits with the Elkay sinks, but I'm confident we could work around that). Hence my question above for Joseph Corlett - asking why he prefers Elkay over Blanco. I think it's a balancing act between choosing individual items that you love versus creating a cohesive look which may require some compromise!

I think the Elkay composite mix is denser than that of the Blanco. Any Insinkerator-type disposal will work with the apron front Elkays. The sink comes with the replacement flange.

You aren’t limited to white if you choose the Kohler Whitehaven. Take a look at the Whitehaven in Cashmere.
