It has a name, but the tag is wrong. The tags say Frisian Waving Steel.

Do you think it could be Dark Shadows? The margin was yellow when unfurling and quickly mellowed to chartreuse/green.

I don’t think it’s Dark Star……. from the HL pics, it lacks the blue I think. Don’t you have a Dark Star??? 🤔🤔

Someone suggested my noid could be Holly’s Dazzler. Maybe that could be your’s. It has a wavy, pie crust edge and a beautiful dark purple striped flower. Yours could be a young one………..BUT HD does not have a light margin……..haha, I sure am a lot of help!!!

Thanks for trying, Debra. I have Dark Star, but not Dark Shadows. Who knows what this is. It is of rather thin substance, though it is pretty enough.

I missread obviously.....or I immediately thought of Dark Star because I have seen it highlighted in your garden. I will have to look at DS.....

Not Dark Shadows unless it looks vastly different growing under the Oaks in NC. This is grown in mostly shade.

Yours, also looks to be grown in much shade or I would think the margin would be more distinct. The glossy leaves make me think it is a fragrant. That would be telling and would lead me to Paradise Sunshine.

Star-Kissed has subtle variegation, but mine is showing more contrast a month ago with a little direct sun but mostly house shade.

Lakeside Symphony also has subtle variegation, but I think the whole leaf is generally lighter in color.

Thanks for you input, Steve and Debra. I guess we will know more next year if it blooms. It is growing in part-shade. I think we can all agree that it is not Frisian Waving Steel as advertised. The leaves seem awfully big for such a young plant. I am kind of worried that it is a Sum and Substance or Empress Wu sport.

Could it be Erie Magic? Anyone have pictures of Eric Magic when it is young? I have seen the library pictures already.

HL database says EM is medium-large in size,which could explain why it’s so large fo a young plant. When and if it flowers will help with the ID.
