Cicadas & plants

Its FINALLY warm enough at night to start putting my plants outside for summer & fall. With the dreaded cicada boom nearing, my question is, should I leave them all inside till it’s over? This will be my first time dealing w/ cicadas as a gardener. I read that the cicadas use their sucking mouth parts on plants. I also read that the nymphs feed on the xylem of trees, maples included. I plan to plant a Japanese maple, so I’m worried about it getting eaten as well. TIA.
