My thought was that the crown would just wrap the cabinets. Not the whole perimeter. Help!!!!

If I leave the range wall just tiled and no crown, would you leave the crown above the window and above my area that I’m planning shelves (next to the appliance garage)???

The whole space has crown. My husband is saying to keep the crown white and paint just the riser gray to match the cabinets.

Not sure why it’s all white here. That’s a big mistake. The crown needs to be the cabinet color on top of the cabinets. Trim color elsewhere. And wrap the whole room, with the same profile.

I think the crown should be around the room.

As NMC NMM Says room crown is white, cabinet crown is cabinet color. It is done this way all the time

@User The crown on the cabinets isn't painted yet. It's going to match the cabinets. They told me the painter likes to paint once it's already installed. Thought that was odd, but IDK.

So, I was worried to have the gray crown on the cabinets meet the white crown above the window...and then the white crown on the range wall. I was picturing it to be crownless on the tile wall with the tile all the way to the ceiling flush. It seems like it will look too stripey.

I don't know the right way to do this!!! So the way they are doing it, I'll have gray crown on the cabinets and then white above the window and on the range wall?

@HALLETT & Co. But what about the kitchen crown that isn't attached to the cabinets? LIke between the window, on the range wall, and above my shelves? Because I was just going to leave that crownless because I thought it would look weird to have gray or white there. You will see the stripes of different color crown that way?

Room crown molding is room trim color. Cabinet crown molding is cabinet color. Simple. I think theres even another post in this on page 1.

Edit: Inwas wrong, it’s about different colored crown in 2 different colored cabinets. But the principle is exactly the same. The crown molding “belongs” to what is below it.

I do understand the color now.

But I thought it would be weird to mix the crown colors in the same room. And in the range wall I’d have white along the top and the gray on the hood.

My plan was to skip the crown in those areas and only have it on the cabinets but these guys are saying that's a bad idea.

So, you actually have two different crowns going on here, no? The one above the cabinets and then the one on the walls, right? That doesn’t make sense to me. I would apply the crown that is above the cabinets around the entire room, as if the room’s crown wraps over the cabinets. OR, I would take down all of the room’s crown and just have crown above the actual cabinets, themselves. Either or, not two different crowns. I don’t know if this makes sense. This is where the PROs need to weigh in!

@User Ahhh, yes.. i just read though that. Crown color belongs to what's below it. But I was confused because the crown on the range wall, window wall, and shelf wall doesn't have anything below it. When a kitchen is all white it looks streamlined to have the white trim around the entire space, but I feel like with the gray and then white and then gray and white, it might look too striped in my space. That's what's got me worried!! My plan was to just to have no crown in those areas and just tile all the way up. But these guys were doing otherwise.

@ptreckel Yes! I have two colors going on! And it's got me stressed out. I almost feel like I'd rather have NO crown in those 3 kitchen areas (above range, above window, above shelves) rather than have white in those spots and gray on the cabinets!!!!

But I don't know anything about this stuff, so I was hoping the pros could steer me right.

My gut said only crown on the cabinets, (and then it also goes around the entire family room and nook), but in the places in the kitchen that aren't above the cabinets, I was just going to leave it off there rather than paint those white. I think the white pieces between the gray pieces will drive me crazy because it's not a smooth flow.

Edited to add: It's the same crown around the entire space, but it will be a different color when it goes around the cabinets. So white around the family room and nook, then gray above the cabinets. The problem is whether to have it white above the window and range, or just to skip it in those areas.

Your crown guys are trying to lead you in the right direction- put crown everywhere, altering the color to match that which is below it (IE white on walls that are just wall like the rest of your house, cabinet color on area that are cabinet.

@Cherie Ahh, yes..I see that and like it! This looks great!

But my kitchen will have a couple areas in between that will have the white crown. So it's not a streamlined look. It will go white, gray, white, gray, white as the crown makes it's way around the room. I can't find any images that have it back and forth with two different colors.

You know, I don't even really like this crown. I only got it to match the rest of the room, so we didn't have to replace the entire space. So that's probably making it worse for me. I think it'll stand out more because it'll be white, gray, white, gray, white gray around the whole room.

Oh well! It is what it is I guess on that aspect!

Wrap the whole room with crown. Match the cabinet color above the cabinets, and the trim color where there are not cabinets.

They ended up leaving for the day before finishing, so at least I have an answer now! They probably would have finished but then when they say I was stressing out they stopped installing it. I will have them wrap the room and paint it the correct color for what it's above. Thank you all for swooping in to help!!!!

@AJCN OMGosh...I know!!! They are not the least bit careful!! They were standing on my new counters to install the trim and i could HARDLY get their boot prints off my quartz. I had to break out the bar keepers friend and use some elbow grease. How rude for them to just show no regard for my brand new counters!!! I was complaining to my husband and he said it's +normal+ for workers to do that. I'm like "UUMMMM NO!!!". Or at least I hope it's not normal to throw tools and boots around on the new white counters!!!
