Go ahead and repot it, just be gentle when you do so you don't disturb the roots. A larger pot will be more stable and you will have a better chance of getting blooms with more soil for the roots to spread out. In the late Fall you can take it out of the large pot, trim the roots for a smaller pot and bring it indoors. --Linda Leaf

Try not to disturb the roots too much when re-potting. Next time, re-pot it while it is dormant during winter.

Thanks Linda and Luis. I think I'm just going to leave it in the pot this year after all. I know that rootbound plants are sometimes more likely to bloom, because they aren't putting out their energy making roots. The pot seems big enough for one more season. If I don't get blooms, I'll repot it in the fall and let it make roots over the winter, then maybe it will bloom next year. It's just such a pretty multi-colored flower, and it's a very special cutting from my friend's father's plant, so I just want to get a bloom!

I would not say that rootbound plants are more likely to bloom but all those roots will be exhausting the available supply of nutrients from the potting soil more rapidly.

What color(s) blooms do you get? Do you know which variety it is or have pictures to share? Are the blooms fragrant to you? The scent is my #1 requirement, just like with roses.

Go ahead and repot
