We haven't seen the master bedroom or where the furniture is in relation to the ceiling. What are you concerned about with the "beams?" I just referenced your dilemma on another post. You should read the guidelines; it will help you get help for your dilemma.

@decoenthusiaste, at this point there is no furniture laid out as of yet, as the house is in the finishing stage. I am trying to figure out the layout of the ceiling first as all the beams are different widths, and lengths and so is the ceiling in all the different gaps.

You're right, I need to give more information. I have never posted here before.

I'll get the exact dimensions from the contractor. The ceiling at this point is high, but will be low if I use the lowest level beam to cover everything. Two conditions keeping me from doing that are:

I am claustrophobic and the split AC unit will not have any space above it.

A wide angle picture of the entire ceiling area in one picture would be a good starting point.

@Rachel Lee yes, I plan on the whole house to be white, I lack creativity and commitment to have any other color but white. As you said, I need the wonkiness to disappear.. and that is in the various length and width of the beams.

You could install hollow coffered beams and standardize all of the widths. A trim carpenter can create these or you can purchase them from several places (<--link). Note these beams have several styles - flat side vs side with a moulding, flat face vs a reveal at the very edge.

The other design considerations are whether there is a beam at the edges of the room that meets the walls and whether you would like to install recessed lighting in between the beams.

The way that I begin my ceiling projects is to install a proof of concept section, see whether my wife likes it. We've found that this is a good way to be sure that we'll like the end product.

Do you know that mini-splits now come with ducting systems if you don't like the wall hung units?

@decoenthusiaste, yes, I chose not have ducted systems because they take a lot of height and the ceilings are not very high (design flaw) and I am claustrophobic so I would like as much height in the bedroom as possible.
