powder room/ laundry room redesign?

Hi All!

We are in the process of remodeling our 1300 sq ft condo and we are having a really hard time trying to reconfigure/redesign the laundry room/powder room area in a way that is beautiful AND functional. The laundry room and powder room are definitely one of our most used rooms, but they are smack dab in the middle of the living room. If we keep the current configuration, we would attempt to copy Becki Owens laundry design, however, our current laundry space cannot accommodate a front loading washer and dryer as she has in her design. So we would probably need to get rid of the closet in the living room to enlarge the laundry room. We do use that closet quite a bit, but we are willing to sacrifice it if it helps the overall flow of the first floor. I have attached photos of our powder room/laundry room (excuse the mess, it always looks that way), becki owens inspiration photo, as well as the current first floor plan. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That looks like the laundry room we had in our condo, before. I love it now, but did replace my WD with front loaders. Here is a pic of before and after, still a little left to do.

My recommendation would be to remove the door into the laundry area from the powder room, drywall it over, and add the entry to the laundry next to the closet. That way you can make your powder room less utilitarian and more inviting for guests.

If you close the powder room from the laundry, you lose your sink. Otherwise I like the idea of of closing the rooms off from one another. You might be able to add a sink in the laundry room. I would not want a laundry room without a sink. You could stack your W/D. I like mine stacked as it gives me more floor space for other things. Don't forget a drying rod or rack for hanging damp clothes.

I agree with Sabrina. Great idea. And to expand on it I’d probably pull the wall out to make it flush with the closet. It’ll give you more space. Am I making sense?

@enduring we are seriously considering a stackable washer and dryer to make it more functional. We will hopefully get quotes soon and make a choice. @Kate Your laundry is definitely my goal! It looks so much more functional. Which front loaders did you go with and do you like them? @HU-187528210 yes, I agree. We would need to bump out that closet. we lose a bit of living room space and a closet, but a functional laundry room is a great trade off.

Ann, I purchased Electrolux and so far really like them. Huge capacity.
