Stem Size Help Establishment

Riddle me this

Take 2 annuals. Both sold in 1 qt containers.

One may have what appears to be a fairly thicker established stem that was probably cut and rooted for the pot.

The other may have been established by mass plant plugs with a stem that is 75% thinner

Without lifting it up to see the root ball, let's say for discussion sake, both have a decent rootball in the 1qt pot

Have any of you guys noticed any difference in establishment once planted (thicker stem being potentially faster, more vigorous)

I generally sway towards the latter, as the roots are pretty much decent already in the 1qt pot, and the lead formation looks a bit -more better in my eyes than the stubby thick cut plug.
