A gutter contractor started removing the old gutters installed before I bought the house 20 years ago in order to install new ones. The wood behind the gutters in three places was so rotted that the vinyl covering the soffit collapsed. There could be more damage. I had a roof replaced 12 years ago and the warranty is long past

. I cannot tell from the ground or pictures whether any of the decking is rotted but it doesn't appear that the rafters are damaged. But I'm not positive. The gutter company uses/recommends a handyman type company with little information on its website. No mention of license or bonding. I need advice from a carpenter on what kind of questions to ask a contractor on this type of work. What else should I consider? I normally try to use local craftsmen who are usually one or two person shops. Is this the kind of thing better to use a large company? Everyone is busy and hard to schedule in my area no matter how good or bad their work, I've heard. YIKES!
