We have two kids (3 and 7) and live in New England, so we need storage for coats, shoes and boots, backpacks, and now masks, plus some landing spot for wallets/keys/etc. And we need somewhere to sit while taking off shoes.
Right now we have a narrow IKEA bench, hangers and hooks for coats, and a boot tray for shoes. We tried bins for shoes but the cats decided that was a good spot to relieve themselves, so floor bins are out.
Most members of the family tend to drop things on any horizontal surface so the easier it is for people to put things away, the better.
