Not sure where you are located, but in most of the U.S., there is plenty of time left yet to plant zucchini. It only takes 50-60 days to begin bearing. I've planted after July 4th a couple times, and even in my short summer, still got a lot before frost. I actually planted zucchini late on purpose, to avoid the squash vine borer egg laying period (and it worked).

Thank you zeedman Zone 5 Wisconsin, I am in Zone the same zone as you, Colorado is mostly Zone 5 but some areas are 6 and 7. So I appreciate your insight! I will get them planted this weekend!!!

all you have to lose is the minor cost of the seed ...and so what if they produce a few weeks later ..

frankly.. in my MI ... its only been about 2 weeks since we could plant out tender stock ... so you arent behind much at all ...

my only question is.. can you get them to grow a real root mass before the heat of summer hits ... and in your area.. the answer is probably yes they can ... as long as you make sure they have enough water when it gets real hot ...

you are comparing yourself to CO .... which is mostly east of you.. but z5 actually goes deep into the south .. and that is where summer heat might build faster than up our way .. also keep in mind.. zone is simply the predicted lowest temp on the worst day of winter .. and it means really nothing else.. especially with what you are asking now ... that you included big city name.. was the key ...

and i should have mentioned... low winter temp ... zone ... is not relevant to a veg that is grown as an annual ...
