I have a puzzle

In a wood, in West Cornwall, the other day.

Spotted this flower that reminded me of Bidens, so I took some pics. so I could ID it.

When I later checked the pics I realised that the foliage I had shot were obviously of a Ranunculus, based on the other flowers in the pics. Problem though, is that I can't find in my books, any Ranunculus with clasping leaves like these.

So, gurus, one and all. Any ideas as to the ID of the original flower and the buttercup spp.?

Definitely, Geum urbanum. Growing amongst Ranunculus repens, hence the mystery leaves. Brambles in there too. Weedy annoyance in my garden. Hard to uproot In paving.

Thanks guys

I had tagged R. repens in the mix that was there. It was the the "clasping" leaves that were throwing me.

Is this form an early leaf before it is fully developed?

No. It’s just one of the normal leaves on a flowering stem. i just took these a minute ago to show the different leaf forms. ignore the Alchemilla leaves. The Geum is a pain which self seeds amongst other plants.

Thanks floral. I have it in my garden but the leaves on the flowering stems have much smaller leaves and distinct petioles.

Could be the ground I have. As far as I can determine the previous owner considered any form of fertiliser or feed a waste of money, unless it came in a tomato grow bag.

The hebe I asked about a while back, turned out, when I went to remove it, to be growing in one .

The fact is that, yet again, our pathetic flora means there is no other species it can be. Only one yellow Geum grows here.

Duhhhh!!

Sorry. I got totally mixed up in my reading the posts.

Yes. There is R. repens flowers and leaves in the picture.

The flowering stem in the foreground I had assumed was also R. repens.

Now I check the Geum out, I realise, WRONG AGAIN!!!!

One day I will learn to check everything and assume NOTHING.

99% of the time, if I assume something, I get egg on my face and make an idiot of myself.

That's life. :-))))
