My husband and I have the same fireplace stone and we disagreed on a sofa sectional color and he insisted the gold toned fabric would be great, however it clashed horribly with a wall paneling feature, so a $500.00 restocking fee later we landed on a charcoal sectional which was perfect. S*** happens, maybe either a light grey similar to your dining chairs, or a darker grey like your entertainment console could be an option? Nice job on the kitchen!

I think you can the white cabinets to the living room by swapping your tv console for something white instead of black. The floor honestly does clash with your beautiful wood floors. It has a lot of movement and is eye-catching, but not in a good way. I think I’d want to swap it for something that has little to no pattern. You could even stick with the planks if they were in a dark brown to black color family. Either that or large square tiles in either white or charcoal.

I'm afraid that not going with a floor to match your other areas has held your kitchen back from being the star that you were imagining. As your kitchen is so open to the other living areas of your home it needs the continuity of having the same floor. The flooring in your living areas is just magnificent - and warm! If you were to change the floor to match the existing floor, or at least be a darker (a deep brown with red tones?) surface, I think you will find that the warmth that you are seeking will start to come through.

Whilst you are making that decision, some simple additions in rich red wam toned woods will help connect your kitchen - wood chopping boards on display against the splash back, a large wooden bowl for fruit on the island, a wooden utensil stand/tub. As Carolyn suggested, a white TV cabinet would aid the connection, but i think you have discovered you enjoy warm tones so this idea might change the feeling of your lounge.

Why did your husband not want to match the floors? Is he open to it now because I think that would make a huge difference. The white cabinets are pretty. I also like the idea someone had above to do another piece of furniture in white to tie it together. Good luck!!

My vote also goes to changing the floor. From what you say, any other changes you make are not going to stop you hating the floor, which is too big a clash with the living room. And the living room floor does look good. If I were in your position, the biggest challenge for me would be making the change without uttering the words 'I told you so.'

Edit: I understand your point about wasting money. However, if you live with something you really can't like, then in my mind you've already wasted the money. Spending to put something right is not a waste. Perhaps you can get someone to do a graphic representation of the are with the same color floor to get a sense of what it would look like before you replace the floor.

I would just put a rug on the part dividing the living room with the kitchen on top of the new kitchen floor , a runner with wonderful colors of your choosing ...( red tones perhaps ) it would divide , make the differences less noticeable and warm it all up

Really nice home. Would keep those flower pots (and more) on the top landing, middle step and bottom landing on each side of the steps to help visitors remember there is a step off there. There are even step baskets that you might want to keep on had to set in place as you mentioned the step off to visitors.
