There's no way in the design that the box can tie in to the ceiling in our case.

There is approximately ~13 sqft. I don't know the exact weight of 3/4" quartz but at 15lbs / sqft it would be approximately 195lbs.

I'd want a couple 2" square tubes fabricated to protrude from the wall framing so I could test fit the plywood box before the estone cladding was adhered.

Without steel tied into the studs and the rafters, that will not be nearly enough support. It will come crashing down.

The plywood is a full box and screwed into the studs from the inside.

I calculated the weight to be approximately 195lbs. I could hang on the box without movement before the the quartz was installed.

The installation is warrantied and this is how they say they've done many installations without issue.

Your moment of a load by hanging on it is a lot different than a constant load.

@zenfe doing the same for our hood, but our fabricator says it’s not possible to wrap in quartz because how would it be accessed for repair or replacement issues in the future? Do you have any idea?

@Sana Jilani, the hood fan gets installed from underneath in our case. So if there's a problem we can remove the fan unit separately.

Underneath the box is a stainless steel sheet that is recessed up ~1" and covers the bottom. A rectangular cut out in the stainless steel sheet allows for installation of the hood fan unit.

I have done the exact same quartz wrapped hood as you have and my kitchen person also built a box like yours out of plywood. Have you had any issues? Do you have pictures of how the plywood box was contructed on the inside? I am so worried that my quartz will fall and kill us all!!

We recently did the same, I believe also with screws but got so many comments saying it's not good support. How has ur hood been so far? I'm also paranoid about safety in future specially with added weight of hood itself. Tya

Drywall screws and a butt joint have no shear strength.
