Purslane, Portulaca oleraceae. And it IS edible (although I have never tried it)..

I have tried it. The older leaves actually have more flavor. Nice addition to a salad

or just a nibble when weeding. Nice but not great eating.

Thank you all. My pic now has an accurate name, I used to see this often years ago, but not where I'm at now. I'm now in a low, wet area w/extreme weed growth & competition (wild lettuce grows 15+ ft tall here), perhaps that's why.

Wiki says it's also called pusley -- that's not very appetizing....

I ate some for the 1st time a little while ago, when I was weeding, and it's absolutely delicious. Better even than lambs quarters I think. I thought I wouldn't like the texture but it's nice. I want a pickling recipe for them. Very brassica type flavor. Chock full of vitamins and nutrients.😁 I wonder how they taste cooked?

with enough butter and garlic.. everything taste good... of course.. it all tastes like butter and garlic ....

a lot of us go out into the garden to get some exercise and perhaps lose some weight.. i dont understand this fad of encouraging peeps to go out and graze.. while getting exercise ... crikey.. can you go a whole hour without eating ...or snorting down a half gallon of water from fear of dehydrating.. and dying before you can walk back the house ...

i find it fascinating you find this stuff rare.. back in the day on my 5 acres.. i could have probably filled a 6 foot pickup bed with this vile aggressive weed ... who knew it was regional like that .. go figure .;....

I think 'vile' should be reserved for plants like Aegopodium podagraria and Japanese knotweed. More opportunistic than agressive. We're you abused by weeds when you were a kid?? You seem to be walking around with a big weedeater on your shoulder. Just saying.
