Those old fashioned, rumpled petals always speak to me. They're so natural and uncomplicated. I grew Fruhlingsmorgen a life time ago. I don't know much about them. I wonder if they're related. Thank you for sharing this beautiful rose with it's perfectly unblemished foliage.

They are lovely! While you might wish they were more abundant, you couldn't ask for them to be any healthier or prettier.

I've had 'Fruehlingsduft' in the garden since 2007 or 2008 and like it quite a lot (also 'Fruehlingsgold', which I like even better). A handsome shrub, fragrant, early flowering, thrifty, and does very well in our zone 8 dry summer Italian hills. The world could use more of these dignified species hybrids.

Yes Melissa! I would love to see hybrids with Rosa palustris: the rose is hardy, tall, beautiful foliage (think delicate vase shaped willow), almost thorn free -- and FRAGRANT!

rosesmi5a, I agree R. palustris is a desirable rose. I used to have it, but my garden is a tough environment, and its conditions didn't suit the Swamp Rose at all, so I lost it. I imagine it's very well adapted to the eastern U.S. I'm all for experimentation with hybridizing from species.
