Since your garage is "front and center", reducing their attention drawing impact is key. For that reason, stick with the house color when you replace the doors.

wow Maureen, thanks! never thought of that. Would the color (soft green or .blue) need to relate to something else on the .house - or can it be stand alone? It couldn't .be the .door because we .have an iron door on order.... so that's out. Ideas? thanks again !!

You could incorporate the garage door color on the front windows. It looks like that is what was done on the first photo that Maureen sent.

I like the soft green idea too, but if you can’t carry off the motif on other trim, doors, windows, pots, etc., then maybe go with a beautiful ’wood’ door in a nice southwestern design. We just ordered two ’wood’ (actually some kind of composite material) from Clopay. Delivery time is 14 weeks (ugh). We could have ordered real wood, but the garage doors are in full sun and I don’t think wood would wear as well (but it would look stellar!). Also, the real wood was killer expensive.

When redoing our garage doors, we found a local company that glues and screws solid cedar onto steel doors. We have the beauty of cedar on the outside with the durability of insulated steel on the inside. The total cost was around $4,000 for a double wide door, installed. I think that included the heavy duty Chamberlain door opener. It is a thick and heavy door. I did finish it myself with 2 coats of opaque stain to match my siding. Since my door faces west, we installed a mirrored film over the glass. I believe finishing the door myself saved us a lot of money.

Phassink, Your doors are wonderful, and believe me, you saved bags of $$ with your DIY efforts! Clopay quoted me $34,000 for a double and single door set in real wood.

any plans on painting the house? you could paint them in a contrast color, or do a darker trim/lighter stucco.

light stucco, the green on the trim/garage, the rose color for the front door

if you did a shoji white stucco, you could do the darker color on the trim and the doors, or do the doors the darker color

I have a very similar house. whole neighborhood are those mediterranean style w/the spanish roof. I used to have very spanish looking colors. golds/coppers.

recently went w/white stucco and dark charcoal trim. got a new charcoal tile roof. the doors are wood-look with iron hardware

If you changed your stucco to a creamy white, picked a trim color from your brick, and did a dark door like this, I think it would look nice

The garage’s color can stand on its own, which if fairly common. You can tie to the iron front door with lighting and hardware choices.

You can have the doors painted to appear to be wood by a good painter

Maureen, also - how did you index (find?) that picture with the the blue garage door color? I'm having a hard time finding additional photos to show hubby.... I love this idea, but I need to work on him a bit more..... : ) .

I've never posted a question to HOUZZ before - and I'm blown away by all these helpful suggestions! I should have been doing this sooner.

I LOVE the paint suggestions... yes - we are thinking to paint in the somewhat near future... so these suggestions are really opening up my mind. We've ordered iron doors (so no painting the iron door the cool red contrast color) but the door will be low profile squares (a deep, almost black iron color) so how does this shake up the paint color suggestions?

I did my door a dark gray. I have spanish tile accents on the porch w/my white and dark charcoal color palette. I like it.

I think your terra cotta w/a white stucco (like Swiss Coffee), a darker trim color (Urbane Bronze, Wrought Iron, Iron Ore) would look amazing and appropriate w/your style house.

bring in some copper or terra cotta planters, whatever plants go in your area, maybe the iron hardware on the garage, a diff light and address numbers, and you're all set

try looking at mediterranean style ranch homes, or homes like your model, and see all of the white and creamy white options.

great color (dark) for disguising ugly garage doors is SW Urbane Bronze.

Found this one as well by searching “Spanish style exteriors with garage”.

No harm in buying a quart to get a feel and you can always paint over that area. Remember style of door is also key, especially when it‘s so prominent.
