It’s pretty expensive and will not look like that photo unless you stain and seal it- left natural it fades to white and then grey very quickly. It’s a nice wood but I might look at ipe as well- similar price but sometimes more readily available.

You can also check out mahogany or cedar. Mahogany can be purchased pre-oiled or if left natural will eventually grey out. Cedar should be treated but doesn't need to, it will also grey out or time. Both are rot-resistant.

I would not use cedar but IPE would be a good choice I think.

I’m located in MS. Seems that there is a big price difference between Ipe and Cypress. Ipe is coming up around $4000 and that’s not including shipping and fasteners etc. Cypress is coming up around $1000 with nails etc. Ipe was my first choice— however, with prices increasing I’m rethinking everything. We will definitely seal anything that we put up. I just don’t want anything that will rot, mildew or that won’t hold up with consistent water. And we don’t want to have alot of maintenance.

I don’t want constant maintenance- don’t do an outdoor shower using wood in the south! You will need to learn to love the natural aging of the wood or be ready to clean and restain it regularly. Make sure all fasteners are stainless steel screws too. Knowing you are in the south I wouldn’t use cedar- wood boring bees LOVE it. Not great in a shower (they aren’t aggressive but still)

Some other options you could consider are tigerwood, garapa, or cumaru. They're tropical hardwoods like ipe, so they share much of its durability and rot resistance. They're also a lot cheaper than ipe, especially tigerwood and garapa.

I've never heard of any of these! What part of the country are you in Advantage Lumber? My only other option is Red Grandis...
