agree.. it might be worth paying for an onsite inspection from a certified arborist ... its called peace of mind... every guy with a chain saw is not an arborist ...

Bite the bullet - a tree with cavity right next to a forked trunk like that is a disaster waiting to happen in my opinion, at least if it is overhanging a structure.

I had a similar situatino wth an olive, and the arborist cabled it above the fork. That doesn't always work, though, and olive wood is very hard. If the arborist that gave you the advicce was ISA-certified, go with that advice. If not, as Ken said, find one and get a second opinion.

Thanks, we cabled it years ago. Its grown so big, looms over the house and has the spot with rot. I may just get it trimmed until i get an arborists
