Thank you. That appears to be it. It's not rampant just yet, so maybe I'll enjoy the flowers before I start ripping it out (with gloves).

@daninthedirt (USDA 9a, HZ9, CentTX, Sunset z30, Cfa) Dan, your Campsis radicans is very immature. It won't bloom until it's much larger, and by then it WILL be rampant, lol. The roots of a large plant are very deep, and any miniscule remnant left will re-sprout. Count on it. It's best if you remove it now. I had a volunteer plant with scarlet blooms, a much truer red than the wild forms around here. I toyed with the idea of propagating it (hah!). I thought I could keep it in hand. Nope. And when I removed it, not only did it keep coming back, it sent up shoots 10-15 feet away.

Good advice. Thank you! I've been fighting Virginia Creeper in this area, and the last thing I need is another invasive trying to take over.

It can come up 30 feet away. Happened in my last garden. Had to move to get rid of it:)
