This tree is outside the window of my apartment in northern New Jersey, USA. Lately it's been dropping bark like crazy - see the huge bare spots, and the big strips of bark that are collecting on the ground. Does anyone know what kind of tree it is, and whether or not this is normal? I'm hoping it's not sick - it's a nice tree and I'd hate for it to have to come down.
