I think the formula is: 2.5(dog length) by 6.25(dog width). I could be wrong.

You could create a large laundry sink (that could double as a pet grooming space) adjacent to and/or within a Corian counter top at the end of your laundry room with a single deep sink in a wall to wall countertop, preferably at a window. (Perhaps the window could even help distract and calm the pet and, in good weather, could provide fresh air for the room, with or without a fan set in the window sill.)

It was a half serious comment to determine the space required, that would most likely define the space within a room, not necessarily the size of the room. Think about the space needed for the dog, to access the dog, and to store equipment with easy access while grooming.

If I were building from scratch, I would build a curbed area in a laundry room for dog bathing, and to be able to wash feet, etc. (dogs and my own, lol - I get right in there when I am weeding and planting). Or a true "mud" room. We tend to gravitate towards dogs on the medium to larger size, and it can be hard to safely lift them in and out, especially after when they're wet. I would worry about hurting myself or the dog, particularly as both of us age.

I love those self serve dog washes that some of the pet stores have. Having someone else clean up all the hair and wash the hairy towels ... priceless! I have washed my med/large dogs in the master shower before and it does a good job of containing the splatter and dog hair. I haven't seen a single dog bathing/grooming set up in a laundry that would contain the hair/water that goes flying large distances when the dogs shake off.

I just take my dog to the car wash; strap his paws to the conveyor belt and let'r rip!

I use my shower to bathe my goofballs. I bought an 8' hose with a sprayer that attaches before the shower head. I give the dog a good shower, clean the shower with cleanser and then watch their joy after they are dried.

I use a hand held shower and it works great.

doc5md, i have had my eye on that flying pig tub, but i wish the price would drop more...

I now think i'm going to need to separate the two functions--laundry and dog grooming-- because space-wise they don't fit together. That may mean the dog grooming happens in the basement, but the laundry will stay on the main level. The down side is the dog bath was going to double as a utility sink, and now i'll have to decide whether to add a utility sink somewhere else. Details...

I have the flying pig tub ready for the new house - not having to stoop ovr to bathe dogs either in a walk in shower or tub will be awesome. I have a raised dog shower today - but it's too small and too tall. If I use it - the wanter runs DOWN my arm all the way to may armput unless I stand on a stool. Oops.

I have also seen the rasied bathtub set up and that's a really good idea too.

just_janni, that tub will be amazing. I use a giant laundry sink to bathe her right now, and while i'm shampooing her body, the dog swings her head out over the floor and water goes down my leg, on the floor, etc. I'm resigned to it at this point!

@just_janni glad to know you have that tub too. I I think its a great value and can’t wait to use ours. Ours is at the house sitting in the crate.

ours is sitting in place waiting on the plumber... but there's a host of other crap that needs to be done first. ;-)
