Have you asked them the cost to add an hvac supply into the laundry? It isn’t standard- when my house was roughed in the company skipped it too (I’m in a 3000 sq ft ranch and my laundry is about 90 sq ft). I asked and it was added.

Where do you live that it cost over $75K for that type of remodel? That sounds excessive for almost any area. And now you may have to pay more for the HVAC work? Did they explain beforehand that they were going to "vent" the LR in the manner you described and not put in duct work?

So this was a bedroom before, how did you never know there weren't vents in the room?

A room of this size should have a HVAC supply vent. The transfer grilles are an attempt by the contractor to have some of the warm and cool air move into the laundry room. It is not going to work well. I agree this is unacceptable given what you spent on this renovation.

I assume the original bedroom had a supply vent. If so is it located on the part of the room which became the bathroom? Does your contract make mention of installing a supply vent in the laundry room area? If so then the contractor owes you a supply vent. If not, then you have to figure out how the supply can be routed to the room.

Thanks for your responses. There was a vent in the bedroom, but i believe that vent is now part of the bathroom that was created (the room was split to make a bathroom and laundry room).

I agree, it is excessive but includes management/design fees/adding all the new plumbing upstairs etc. I at least thought I wouldn't have to take part in any of the managing after paying all this, but it's not the case

So you have a contract and plans were drawn up. Dig them out. Possibly it just never got connected. Assuming the space had supply before work commenced.

When the original bedroom space was subdivided into two spaces, the HVAC needs changed from the need to condition a single space to the need to condition two separate spaces. The transfer grill is a poor substitute for an HVAC supply. In my opinion, your design/build company owes you proper conditioning of the Laundry Room--irrespective of the cost of the remodel.

Is it a gas dryer? The high+low wall vents I assume they installed for makeup air.

I am going to guess that the plumbing for the sink, shower and/or tub in is in the wall that divides the laundry room and bathroom. The supply in the bathroom is another wall which makes it more difficult to route the duct work to the laundry room. Therefore the fancy design and build firm decided without consulting the homeowner the laundry room would have no supply vent. Installing a duct to go over to the laundry could have been done during the demolition and construction of the two rooms.

You always have to keep eye on the design and see ehat they are doing even i you pay for them for the same task coz you are paying and if anything goes wrong its your problem. Keeping the vent connected to the heating and ac must have been addition to their expenditure and they agreed already on such a hefty amount then they decided why not save this hassle as well as you were not noticing at all.
