The noise occurs when the drum isn't turning so apparently is a bad pump, or or a foreign object / debris is stuck in the pump. Is the pump trap accessible from a panel on front of the machine to check for an obstruction? You didn't cite the model to investigate if a replacement pump is available and what may be the part cost at online sources for a DIYer.

There is a hatch at lower left on front of the machine for access to open the pump trap for inspection / cleaning of debris.

The pump is LG P/N 4681EA2001T. Prices vary per the selected source. One I often use (PartsDr) lists it currently for $34.83.

Replacing the little pump unit requires removing the machine's front panel. This video from one of the parts sources outlines the procedure, which you can review to determine if it's within your DIY skills ... but you must confirm first-hand that the pump is the problem, and whether it's bad/worn or just obstructed with debris.
