Post a photo of your house. Answers depend on the siding- masonry houses had narrow trim recessed behind the face of the masonry, wood houses had wide flat trim (usually 5 1/2") on all three sides of the window, with a 1" drip cap.

We are replacing the roof, siding and gutters. The siding will be vinyl with 4 in reveal. Originally, we were going to wrap or add trim to our windows in a 4 inch width but our contractor pointed out that the window wrap is in great shape. Our windows are wrapped with a 2.5 inch trim which I assume is PVC coated aluminum due to its wood grain. He suggest adding a header to add some width and it is does fit in with the Craftsman style (typically 4 -5 inch flat band on sides and top plus a header) so I am trying to determine how high the header should be for a well balanced appearance. The photo is attached - I hope because I have attached it 3 times!

We are not keeping the shutters. We are installing 8 inch square columns in Tuscan style. New garage door and front door in a stained brown wood grain in Craftsman style is the plan.
