Dixon Gallery and Gardens– Admission is currently free (according to the web site). I’ve not been there but read about it in a couple of garden travels books. The property includes both an art gallery and gardens, including a well-known cutting garden that may also include roses. My niece loves to go there in the spring for their annual tulip display; according to my sources they have many other plants as well. It has good reviews and seems to be well-regarded.

Memphis Botanic Garden – Adult admission is $10. We were in Memphis a month ago and visited this garden. There are several different garden areas, including a beautiful, expansive Japanese garden and a Delta heirloom garden. I did get a little chuckle when inquiring about the rose garden upon purchasing our ticket. The woman said, “Well, the roses are not really blooming right now. They like it best when it is really hot.” (Note that this was in mid-August in Memphis! Is there a hotter time? In addition, here in my yard, roses are sort of “semi-dormant” and forlorn when it is most hot!) We did indeed visit the rose garden and there were several plants blooming. That day, we especially liked Basye’s Purple, Belinda’s Dream, Blush Noisette, Cramoisi Superieur, Green Ice, Penelope, and Red Cascade.

Yes. Please do! It's been quite a long time since we visited Memphis, but the garden was lovely when we were there, on a warm, drizzly day.

@RedBird_7a EastTN @jerijen I was able to go to the memphis botanic garden. I was there during the rainstorm so things were pretty wet. there were quite a few roses in bloom such as mutabilis, old blush, louis phillipe, and cramoisi superior. there were more but i can’t think of the names right now.

i am not able to get to the dixon gallery and gardens before i leave, but maybe next time

@jerijen I enjo enjoyed mysemyself. I lik liked seeseeing roroses that I once grew but no longer grow, kind of like seeing old friends.

Thanks, Brandon! I really appreciated your video. It appears that I grow a lot of the same roses. Since I live way on the other side of the state and since East and West don't have much in common, it was a nice surprise.

Thank you for the slideshow from the other side of the country, Brandon! How are you settling in to MO? I’m glad you were able to provide a home in your garden for a number of Dave’s roses! I know they will thrive in your care. Please do post photos someday. If you still like to explore old cemetaries and homesteads, I look forward to hearing about any roses you spot during your visits to these places. @portlandmysteryrose I am settling into Missouri as best as I can. It isn't Oregon, and seeing how I was born and raised in the Willamette Valley I am sort of biased towards there.

I do like to go exploring cemeteries and other places, but have found it hard to find roses in cemeteries here in the St Louis area. And most of the roses that I have seen in people's yards while doing door dash are knockouts, drifts or Dr Huey. I am going to try to post one of the roses in a cemetery here in the St Louis area.

I believe it to be a once blooming rose, but have not been able to go back this fall to confirm

The Williamette Valley misses you, too! It sounds like St. Louis residents are as hooked on the usual rose suspects (and sneaky understock) as gardeners in every city. Sigh. But your old rose discovery is beautiful! Congratulations!! Do you think it might be Russelliana? Carol

Brandon Garner I do not know if they are still available, but Dave6AMo was moving from Missouri. He had several roses he was giving away. If you are in the St. Louis area you might be close.....
