We just went through this. We were able to visit 2 retailers, and checked 2 online sources. I checked Consumer Reports then online reviews for the 2 brands I shortlisted. I took some of my own dishes into the retailer to check loading. Supply is a major issue at the moment, so that weeded out a lot of models, I needed a DW asap and could not wait for months. I chose Bosch with the 3rd rack. Love it, so quiet, super clean dishes, right price point.

Thanks all! I went and did a bit of research as well and found that the Miele does have a lot of rules lol. My husband will definitely have a proble with that so off to look at Bosch.

For those recommending the Bosch 800, can you suggest why it is better than the 500? I just ordered the 500 and could switch, but my salesperson seemed to think it wasn’t worth the extra $3-400 for the crystal setting.

The drying is MUCH better.

Thanks Joseph. I typically run my DW at night and empty in the morning or afternoon. So it has a while to dry even further (and i live in a dry climate). Still worth it?

@Mojave mine is an 800 because I needed a panel ready one and that was in stock at the time. After reading reviews, the only negative I found for Bosch dw was the dry cycle, so I was happy to include it just in case...but I never use the crystal dry setting ;) I mostly run the "speed 60" cycle on a delay.

I replaced a DW a few years ago and went into the store assuming I'd get a Miele or Bosch 800. I ended up with a Bosch 500 because I liked it better than the Miele, and the extra $300 or whatever for the Bosch 800 didn't give me any additional features I cared about. Both models gave me the option of selecting the type of door I wanted (I wanted controls on the top, not front, of the door.) I've since sold that house but was very happy with the Bosch 500. Just my 2 cents.

It may be a 6 month wait for the 800 according to the sales person i spoke to. The 500 is easier to get according to her. I’m calling around to verify.

I have the Bosch 500 for 6 months & run overnight. My stuff is dry in the morning with the Auto Open door feature. Love it!

Love Miele, would never buy anything else. Some here said you have to do alot for it to work, the Bosch is not any different. If it has a watersoftner it will need salt, all dishwashers need rinseaid, bosch has filter that needs cleaning, so does miele, not any different. Detergent is alot to do with your water. Some models of miele open the door when finished. Miele detergent are exellent but pricy.

Even my husband loves our Bosch 800…even though it’s almost 6 years old, and doesnt have the new crystlal dry. Miele is great, too…but it’s more pricey, with little difference in performance.

Bosch. Our new house has a Miele and I miss the more efficient loading of the Bosch in our last house, as well as the floor indicator light (the under the counter one on the Miele is almost impossible to see).

Bosch 800. Hands down. We've had two for 7 years and they work flawlessly. I have another on backorder for another property. I'll wait the 8-12 months.

My last Bosch went ten years before a $400 repair and lasted another 4 (14 years). It was a $900 price range when new (client rejected), $1400 price range when it was removed and a lot more today. Still the most popular brand of dishwashers we install.

My dishwasher (not a Bosch or Miele) went twelve years until it had a $329 repair (DIY) (+$58 if including a display board on which the LCD backlight had gone out, which did not make the machine unusable). It had another repair $69 (DIY) last week (18 years). :-)

Given you live remotely, you may want to see which brands have service available in your area for when something goes wrong. Bosch and Miele certainly have great reputations. An American brand like KitchenAid might have more service or could be easier to get parts to DIY fix. Quality level isn't quite the same, but they're still nice, quiet machines that clean well. Personally, I really like the versatile racking of KA/Whirlpool and find that Bosch is very particular with what goes where (although the 800 has more foldable tines to increase versatility). While the Bosch may fit more plates, the KA rack lets you fit more odd-sized items.

There is a local place that installs and services Bosch. I found that AJ Madison has the 800 in stock. Will be calling them tomorrow to be sure.
