Asko also has a compact vented set, which might be worth a look. l liked my old Asko set, and it was pretty quiet, but I also love my Miele. Both are good machines.

Vented? Almost zero options. Everyone is moving to heat pumps. Much more energy efficient.

Heat pump dryers are sealed. They dont emit hot moist air into the room. Think uber sized dehumidifier. Dont look for a conpact vented dryer.

There are very, very few vented compact options - I believe GE makes one, and I had one from Gorenje (but I think you don't have those in the US). I liked my Gorenje set, but it stayed when I sold my place and I up-sized to full size in my new place.

CR tested the Samsung DV22K6800EW and rated it a Best Buy but many owners at Home Depot are unhappy with its reliability so I'm not sure I'd consider it. Owners at Best Buy aren't so critical.

Owners of the Asko T208VW seem satisfied but the Asko T411VDW may be a better, though more expensive, choice as its capacity is 1 cf greater. Of course, it's also deeper so make sure you have space.

But I'd probably buy the heat pump Miele TWB120WP and its matching Miele WWB020WCS washer and skip the venting.

What do you consider "take forever for a load"? The quick intense wash is less than one hour. Dress Shirts, Delicates, Single Wash, etc. are all under one hour. Cycles like Baby Clothes and others that guarantee that the water temp will reach the set point can take longer for obvious reasons. Short cycles on some competitor products do not imply they do a better or even equivalent job.

I have been looking for a while and have just ordered the new LG heat pump dryer and matching washing machine. The non vented heat pump seems to be the way to go. They are on backorder, so I am not sure when I will get them. They haven't been out long, but the reviews seem good.

I had vented before and it really got hot, but I hear that the heat pump dyers although not as hot, are more gentle with the clothes. This washer and dryer will be in an office/mudroom off my kitchen so I was also concerned about heat and hear these heat pump dryers produce less heat.

A bonus for me is that my dryer vent was on the left side and so now I can move my dryer to the right and put the washing machine on the left to make loading clothes form the washing machine into the dryer easier.

The reviews on vented compact dryers did not seem great.

Wdccruise, thanks for the info. I checked the manufacture site and for some reason, I can have the gray dryer shipped, but not the gray washing machine. (at least to my zip code). I even checked a couple zip codes for another area in the country and they are not available to ship.

HD, Best Buy and Lowes show back order on all the gray ones or a 1 to 2 month wait. I ordered an appliance one other time on backorder and they just kept moving the date out as the date got closer! I may end up ordering white if the wait becomes to long. Cheaper too.

There are a couple of online retailers that show you can order, but I have never used them.
