It's not on your list of choices above, but we like the scent of Tide with Bleach powder. I don't use it for sheets as it is quite scented, but when I use it on other white or light colored laundry everyone comments on how nice their laundry smells.

I do use Tide Orginal powder for just about everything and it smells alright to us. The fam says their laundry smells nice but they don't get overly excited by it like they do with TWB. I've used the Mountain Spring one in the past. I know what a mountain spring smells like, and this is not it ;) People here on this forum have commented that they like this scent a lot. Perhaps I got a bad box or something, but the one I used smelled very chemical-y and not pleasant. Everyone was happy when that box was used up. I've not used the others you have pictured above, so can't comment on those...

All this time I was thinking Tide with Bleach was unscented 🤦🏿‍♂️ I feel so ignorant now! Lol! I will be sure to add that option as soon as get to my computer. Thank you for mentioning it.

hi MWJ, I also didn't know Tide W/Bleach is scented. I havent used powders in over a decade so everything is new now. I started using the Mountain Spring powder this summer for towels and sheets.

hi MWJ, I like it, it is a nice clean smell and it is is very faint after the drying process.

I do not know what the original tide smells like.

I use Tide original. The scent is fine. I really do not smell much of anything on the clothes. It is very faint. I would like to try the Mountain Spring scent.

Not powder but I did have Tide with a touch of Downy liquid and I coudn’t stand it. I washed some sheets in it and had to take the sheets back off the bed and rewash. It was so strong that it made me nauseous.

Pink, ok that's good. I'm glad it's a pleasant scent. That's actually the one I'm thinking about getting for my next powder. I'm looking between Mountain Spring or Tide with Bleach for my towels. Or if I could find it, the Clean Breeze scent. I think I remember how the liquid version smells. My memory is a little faint but I do remember liking it. Wish it was readily available in Powder.

Vinmarks, thank you for the input. So to you the current Tide Original scent isn't as bad as some have made it out to be a few years back? Or is it just something you tolerate?

I don't buy for the scent, I don't like a lot of scents in our clothing, towels, bedding. I've used Tide Original powder for so many years I don't particularly notice anything other than clean. I buy in bulk at Costco (it's hard to find a powder in one of our local groceries aisles recently) and always have a years worth on hand.

MWJ the scent of Tide Original does not bother me. I dont find it to leave a lot of scent on the clothing. I do extra rinses so maybe that has something to do with it. Like morz8 I buy the Tide Original in bulk at Costco.

I much prefer the Tide Ultra Oxi vs. the original. It has a citrusy scent that I like.

Nick, thank you for your response. The good thing about Tide Ultra Oxi is that it tends to be available at Dollar General on a consistent basis which is really nice. It's only the small box, however. But still, very convenient.

Does Tide original smell like it did over 40 years ago? When I opened this thread I had an immediate flashback to the Tide fragrance of long ago. I have been using Gain the last few months though I did use Tide earlier in the year. I am trying to recall if I think the fragrance of today's Tide original is the same as that original box from the 1960's I remember so well.

Be careful with the Tide/wOxi powder though...we had a member here who used it and it faded her colors. Use it for whites or light colored loads, just to be safe, or until you find that is not the case for you. I've not used it myself.

Armjim, I remember the scent of Tide powder from the 1980s to early 2000s. That was GOOD stuff. The 1960s is a bit before I did laundry myself. But no. It doesn't smell the same or as nice as it did before all the scent "improvement" P&G has been tinkering with.

P&G has futzed with Tide's formulation since it was introduced in 1946, although the frequency seems to have increased to nearly monthly so marketing continually has something new to promote.

Among other points ... they touted it as "rinsing optional" circa 1951, pre-measured Redi-Paks circa 1961 (pods aren't so new a thing as they want the consumer to believe), "Intensified" circa 1966, Tide XK (with enzymes) circa 1968, new unscented formula circa 1978, liquid circa 1984, etc.

SEA SEA and/or Dadoes, I just thought of something. What would be the difference between Tide Oxi and Tide w/Bleach? Doesn't both formulas contain color safe bleach? What's the difference between the two?

I don't know enough to have a good talk about it MWJ. It seems the powder Tide Oxi could well be similar to Tide w/Bleach powder. The reports from our member sort of confirmed this, but we are not in the development dept at P&G to know for sure. Littlegreeny is knowledgeable about the ingredients of various products. Maybe he'll pop in here and clarify. The Tide w/Oxi liquid is popular with the family here. It cleans well and they like the strong scent. I can't use it for my own laundry though as I prefer unscented when possible.

Rinsing optional dadoes? Whoa. I guess that one didn't stay around too long.

No rinsing was from the angle of wringer washers. The wash water was typically reused for several loads. Rinsing involved running the items through the wringer to extract the wash water, dunking them in a separate tub of rinse water and wringing again. Two rinse tubs was common when washing in soap for dealing with soap curd .... which Tide eliminated that, being a synthetic detergent.

Tide Ultra Oxi powder has a higher percentage of oxygen bleach than Tide w/Bleach powder. And Tide w/Bleach has more polymers which suspends soils. I agree with Sea Sea and both the oxi and bleach formulas should only be used on white/light colored laundry.

So I have an update. I recently started using Today's Tide "original" scent Powder and to be perfectly honest... I'm not a fan of the scent. I tried to give it a chance but I'm just not feeling it. I may just use it for the floors or something but I'm going to be looking to purchase another Tide variation. How are Tide w/bleach, Tide w/Oxi, or Tide Mountain Spring scent?

hey MWJ'90, too bad that this version of Tide ended up being a floor cleaner for you. My box of Tide Mountain Spring has mfg numbers that indicate it was made in July 2020 and it smells good and cleans well. I do not know about the recently produced version.

I wonder how many of use reuse laundry detergents that "didn't make the cut" as house/floor cleaners?

Sorry to hear that MWJ. With all the scent tinkering they do with Tide, I shouldn't be surprised. Still have the receipt? An exchange or refund perhaps? Maybe give PG a call. They'll tell you a bunch of hooey, but might also send you a coupon for a free detergent to replace the new one you don't care for.

You know who does have nice smelling detergent? Arm and Hammer powders. I don't care for the way they clean or leave fabrics here, but the fragrance is (or at least used to be) nice.

But Tide w/ Bleach powder does smell much better than Original Tide powder. Assuming that has not been through the fragrance enhancer too. Term used loosely.

Thank you SEA SEA, I personally like Arm and Hammer powders' scent. I actually use it to clean the floors and tub and it smells soo nice afterwards. I too have tried Arm & Hammer powders a few months ago but it left some of my towels a bit stiff. (I honestly think I overdosed that time so it may have just been user error on my part). But yeah I really like their scents.

Tide original for me, perfumed Tide causes allergies for us.

I had to find this thread of yours and report back...I just opened a new box of Tide original powder this week. Bought through Costco and has a manufacture sticker of Oct 2021.

Wow. I smell that P&G just can not stop tinkering with the fragrances. This new box smells really terrible. I can't quite find the words for it, but bad is appropriate. PU

It's like a rancid unisex cologne that nobody would like, buy or wear.

The Tide original scent in the last few years, while not close to what real original Tide smelled like was at least tolerable. This new scent is a new low for P&G. :(

No wonder you did not like it. I was in my backyard the other day raking leaves wondering what that stench in the air was. I followed the smell to my dryer vent.

Good grief SEA SEA-can't anything stay the same? Why constantly tinker with fragrances unless they are getting continual complaints? What do you do with a box of powder like that you won't probably use? Do you donate it or just discard of it? It seems like society is marketing mad-it is like going into a store you regularly frequent-and they keep rearranging it because some focus group suggested it. And then two months later it happens again. All of the scents of Tide this century-wow.

Exactly armjim. It's disappointing. I do wish Tide would stop with all the scent changes. It's dumb to do this like they do. I have the Costco sized box. I filled four smaller plastics bins then threw the box away, so I can't even return it. I have to think on what to do with this. The smell is so obnoxious that I couldn't give it to the animal shelter. fyi, it has three different smells: the smell from the box, the smell while washing (TL owner here) and then the smell out the dryer vent, which equalls being a bad neighbor and stinking up the neighborhood. :(

I've liked Tide Original and Mountain Spring for a while now. However, I haven't bought the Original Tide lately. Now that I hear from Sea Sea that Tide changed the scent on the Original formula, I'll stick with the Mountain Spring.

I just knew something was not right about this current "original" (more like wanna be original) scent. It just wasn't doing it for me. I hate that you purchased such a big size of it. Geez, that's such a bummer :-(

Tide w/ Downy Powder has an old school, pleasant soapy scent, and doesnt really leave any detectible scent on your clothing. I only discovered it a few months ago, and I love it.

Well I hope the powder Tide with Downy is better then the liquid. I had liquid Tide with a touch of Downy and it was disgusting. It left such a strong scent on things. I washed sheets in it one time and had to pull the sheets back off the bed because I couldn't take the scent.

Vinmarks, the liquid is definitely different. I bought a small container to try from the grocery store, and washed one small load. It left that sweet, chemical/fruity scent on the clothes. The powder does not leave any noticeable scent at all, even with friction.
