If you search the box above under "Photos" for the term "colonial portico," you'll be hard pressed to find double doors on any of them. Your portico is too small as it is, so unless you want to do a reno of that, I would say the French doors won't work. Have you actually upgraded the interior lighting to 4000K LEDs? That might be too bright for you but you could go to 3500K or less. How many lighting fixtures are in your foyer? That's the place to start. How about uploading photos of the entrance, and lets start there.

Thank for the feedback. When you say too small, you mean physically or visually? The doorway is already the size of a double door as I have had a door company come and quote for them to remove the door and the side lights to be replaced with 2 doors instead. My issue isn't with the indoor lighting but to allow natural light in during the day.

I agree the portico is too small for a grand entry which is what double doors are. If you want more natural light you need a door with more glass and the side lights too. The fact is very often with a potico the natural light never really reaches the interior so you almost always need interior lighting to augment the natural light .IMO the pic above is not a nice look with that portico since one is formal and the doors are not

I think the double door will look better than what you have now. I like it. When it is painted black to match the shuuter, it will be great.

I really understand the desire for more natural light. Alternatively you could get a door like the one you have now but with all glass on the center door part. My parents have a door like that with the two selender windows on either side.
