I've never seen it on a run of steps. Looks like a tripping hazard, and might be a code violation. Don't take your builder's word for it...give a call to your local permit office and ask.

Never seen anything like that get an inspector now.

The stairs bother me more than the pipe.

Mine goes up the inside of the wall. Then across the attic space above the garage. Then down inside the wall for the dryer hookup and furnace.

As mark notes those stairs don’t meet code requirements (the triangle shape tapering to nothing, not necessarily the gas line) so if the builder breaks rules there he’s likely cavalier about other things. The gas line certainly looks like an afterthought.

I was so busy looking at the gas line I missed those stairs .

Is this a new build or an addition/renovation? When we added a gas line in our old home it was part of a renovation and the line ran on the outside of the house on one side. When we built our new house everything was in the walls and not visible

Sloppy work. Why wasn't it run behind the sheetrock? Is he going to build out some low boxed wall to cover it up?

Oh my...does not look up to code at all! My granddaughter would try to use that gas line as a ballet or yoga bar. My grandson would more than likely try to walk across the line like Spider Man.

And those stairs!!! You need to walk close to the wall to be able to have a wide enough area of the steps to walk up/down. No way that can happen with the pipe sticking out. Call a city inspector now!
