Kitchen makeover advice please

We are doing a refresh on our kitchen and would love some advice. We are keeping the cabinet color but replacing appliances, counters, paint and backsplash. It’s an open kitchen and the pictures show both sides. We’re thinking black stainless appliances, snowfall granite countertops, and black composite sink. Not sure what to do about faucet color and additional cabinet pulls. Any thoughts on our choices or new suggestions? Thank you in advance.

The island looks very tight. I’d look into possibly removing the fridge wall.
What’s your budget like for this space?
I’d put the bulk into the wall removal and making the space more functional.
The finished of the kitchen are nice. I like the wood.
Go with cheap backsplash and cheap countertops.
    I like stainless appliances

As already mentioned, choose regular stainless appliances, not black stainless. But the black composite sink will look very good. Also, wait to choose the new backsplash until after the new counters are installed. It will be easier to choose the backsplash tile at that pont, rather than before the countes are installed.

Since you are updating, remove the stuff from on top of the cabinets. That is a dated look.

Why black appliances and black sink? I wouldn't want that at all, but I suppose it would be personal preference. I would think a black sink would show water spots, but maybe you've thought of that, and some do not...

I assume "snowfall granite" is some shade of whitish with a speckled appearance? Do you have a photo? If so, I'd go with stainless appliances as well, and I'd choose pulls to match. I think you might like a bit of "bling" to make it look nice.

Here are some inspiration photos to show how nice the general color scheme could look:

Since you’re redoing the countertops I would suggest changing the fridge wall setup. You could easily move the fridge to the left and have it next to the adjacent wall. Move the cabinet that’s currently there down so both base/wall cabinets are together providing you with a longer countertop space to use instead of being broken up. I would also suggest purchasing a fridge cabinet or diy one and have the cabinet above the fridge actually extending out to the front of the fridge. Otherwise wall cabinets set back are hard to access. Beautiful cabinets!

I‘ve had black stainless appliances for a couple of years and like them very much. Haven’t had a problem with scratching.

I would probably pick shiny finish for faucet and pulls to contrast with the dark elements

Paint the walls. That color doesn't play well with the cabs.

I wouldn't go with black appliances. It will be very dark. I would stick with stainless. Paint the walls a warm white to lighten the space even more. Change the backsplash for something lighter and more modern. The countertops are not the biggest problem, it is the dated cabinets and backsplash.

Your cabinets look like the cherry ones I just took out of my kitchen. I had a small kitchen and even though it was painted a light color, and the appliances were white, I just found it gloomy.

Thank you all for the great ideas! I didn’t design this kitchen, just moving in. I really appreciate the suggestions.

Beautiful cabinets! I agree on ideas to shift refrigerator say to the right and add a right panel wall to finish it off. Congrats on the new home!

I think black will make the space look very dark... I'd go with SS appliances / sink & a light backsplash. I just googled 'snowfall granite', the pics varied, looks like there are warm & cool varieties, I'd choose warm then pick the lightest color and match the new paint. Make sure your new fridge is counter-depth.

If you are just moving in do nothing for at least 3- 6 months the only thing I would buy right now is all stainless appliances and that fridge needs to be counter depth . Change the light bulbs to LED 4000K and then wait. IMO no black with those cabinets and in that tiny space .IMO that island needs to be removed not all kitchens need an island.

Maybe just paint first and do cabinet hardware? Then see.

It might be a good idea to live in your new place for about 6 months or more before making any changes. However, we might recommend doing stainless steel appliances, and once you choose the countertops then wait until they are installed to choose a backsplash that will work in your lighting. Included here are kitchen designs of ours to aid you further.
