front room needs HELP!!!!

Our front room is just plain awkward. I have several pieces of furniture that somehow need to flow in this space . We have tried moving it around several times but I keep second guessing myself.
The first two pictures are what it currently looks like and the last two pictures were when I tried to put most items on the back wall.

Lot's of issues here. The rug is way too small, It should go under furniture and define the space.

At a minimum turn it 90* and put front legs of sofa on it. The curtains brushing the top of the electric heat panel may be unsafe. Better off with no window treatment or an adjustable shade. Then if you could replace those shower curtains with a folding wall of some sort that would help. You want to turn that armchair the other way on the door side of the room. And you need a floor lamp. Stuff stored on top of cabinets needs to go someplace else.

My first thought is that everything seems to be the wrong color. The curtains need to be unified rather than different colors within the same room. The dark blue wall behind the TV creates a dark hole. Some things are very dark while the white fireplace is too much of a contrast.

Can two ” bottom” portions of the cabinetry be placed side by side to act as a Tv stand.? Keep those pieces off of the fireplace wall. Paint the fireplace wall to match the other walls. Move the black bookcase to another room. Get a large rug that will fit under the sofa and chair and unify the colors. Get enough of the yellowish/cream panels for all of the windows. You need several more panels to add fullness.

Remove all of the items on top of furniture and all of the other stuff sitting around. As was mentioned you need at least one floor lamp or an end table with a lamp. Do not bring anything back into the room unless it has a function or a place to store it out of site. I would paint the inside of your front door the same wall color.

Thank you both so much for your comments!
Definitely will be getting a big rug just not sure if color scheme yet.
We have one lamp on the brown end table so far but can definitely add another or a floor lamp.
We are trying to figure out the best place for all of the brown cabinetry but have found that it only really looks good with all the pieces together versus apart as none of the pieces are the same .
Also trying to make sure that whatever set up we end up with has a good place for a Christmas tree.( favorite holiday!!!!)

I can definitely paint the dark wall 😁
I only have 1 sofa . We have a rocking chair and foot stool, an organizer with all our shoes and winter items and then a black storage ottoman s
We are willing to get another chair or small sofa .
How would you suggest making two areas ?

Does the house have a dining room? if so, have you thought about trading those two spaces? i could see this entry room working better as a dining area by the window with some comfy seating by the fireplace.

Adding to my comment above, I would use a pair of comfy armchairs centered on the FP/TV area. You might find a chaise to put in front of the bookcase and add a floor lamp there for a fireside reading nook. If door swing is an issue, maybe a smaller reading chair would work there. On the end with your cabinets, I would float a 3-seat sofa facing them, with a round coffee table 18" from the sofa. Add a pair of armchairs facing each other over the coffee table. If you tire of that arrangement, you might want to get all armchairs alike so you could do a circle of 4 seats around the coffee table and move the sofa to the FP/TV end for a seasonal change. Swivel chairs will make this an easy flip to either end. If you get a sofa table or use your shoe cubby behind the floating sofa, it can also serve as a sort of foyer table for the "jump in" entry. Here are examples, but you'll want to scale the seating to your room.

Perhaps look into placing the TV on the back wall, where the sofa is in one of the images, over a console. Then float the sofa facing the TV with the back of the sofa near the front door. Then you could add two chairs in front of the fireplace to have a nice seating are there as well.
