Thank you! Would it still be this small after 8-9 years? I thought they got quite tall but maybe they stay petite in a urban yard?

Not a big tree to begin with and very slow growing. After many years it might be as tall as some larger Japanese maples. It is rare to see even mature ones in this area much more than 20-25'.

Thanks for the clarification. I have always loved stewartias but when I see them sold at nurseries they state the mature size at 20-40ft so I always throw it out as a contender.

Under ideal growing conditions they may reach as much as 40'......but will take multiple decades to do so.

And anything 40' or less is generally considered to be a small tree :-))
