Which mean's a sample would be easy to get for lab testing. I suggest you do it rather than inviting everyone to wag at it.

Well before my time there was a composite flooring made of wood dust and some kind of binder. I thought is was called Zenatherm and it may have contained concrete also. There were a few in the Palm Beach area and we refinished one as one would do a wood floor.

I was going to say it’s looks like wood chips mixed in. Let us know how this turns out.

My recollection also is that the color goes all the way through so it could be sanded and coated with some type of sealer or urethane. Probably best to do a test in an inconspicuous spot first.

I was also thinking asbestos. It may not be likely, but anything old, unknown and fibrous--it's the worst-case scenario you definitely want to rule out before sanding it.

thanks for all the advice... I was thinking it could be Zenatherm as well Timothy...but everything I was seeing was showin it was popular in the 40's 50's and I do believe these are orginal to the house so it should be 20's . (the man who lived in the house in the 50's said these floors were there when they moved in. Luckily my home has only had 4 other owners so I've been able to get some clues on other projects but this one is stumping everyone including the old owner/families
