If you put the porch across the entire front, it will be a bit awkward to drive under the porch to park in the garage. But yeah, that square wart on the front really should go. :-)

Absolutely dump that whatever-the-hell-it-is and replace it with a suitable porch. But, before you do, get a design from an architect qualified in redesigning heritage houses.
