I am renovating my kitchen/pantry/laundry and am leaving the doorway open / no door. I will only have one doorway / 1 room between the garage and kitchen. To the right will be the washer /dryer and to the left will be the pantry shelves.

I keep things neat enough that I don't care if it is open to the kitchen.

Have you considered looking at modern bifold doors or doing skinny French doors? I’ll see if I can find some pictures for you.

Something to consider - will noise from the laundry room bother you? We have an open laundry area in the basement of our split level, and there's a zippered item tossing around our dryer now that's audible a few rooms away. That might not bother you, or it might bother you a lot - just something to think about.

Here are Some skinny French door ideas for you. A bifold can easily be turned into French doors and cost less. Neither one of those areas I would leave open without a door since laundry and pantries are not really areas you’d want to be seen all the time. Be much for practical to babe the option of closing the door to hide the mess. :)

I have thought long and hard about skinny French doors. I had some picked out and then decided against because I couldn't decide how they would open. The pantry is easy, it could open in or out. The laundry is different. If it opens out, it can't fully open because the left door hits the kitchen counter. If it opens in, it hits washer, so I would always have to have that one side closed if I am washing clothes. Hope that makes sense. 

Do they make a bifold that somehow folds flat against a wall when fully open? I don't know why this is such a difficult decision!

You don’t need to cover both. But at least do the pantry. French doors are a great, gorgeous option!!

When we bought our second home the laundry room door swung in and hit the washer. We immediately had the swing changed so that it opens out. It is kept closed so no one really knows.

Can a door opening to the right into the laundry room (against the cabinets) be installed? You can use a hinge restrictor to keep it from hitting the cabs. It will make the laundry space more narrow.

It would cover your beautiful cabinets, but would keep laundry noise out of the kitchen.

A pocket door on the laundry room would be perfect. Ask the builder.

If you all had to cover one or the other, which one would you add a door to: pantry or Laundry? 

 I am afraid closing up one and leaving the other open will feel unbalanced.

I'd do a pocket door on the laundry and a standard door on the pantry. 2 doors.

If I had to pick one door, it would be a pocket door to the laundry which would only be closed when doing laundry.
