Are you talking about overall style or flooring material? Most people will suggest a cohesive look.

Do you mean the flooring material? It all depends. You could use vinyl tile or ceramic/porcelain tile in the foyer/powder/walkin closets, and mudroom, and carpet or wood or vinyl plank in the main living spaces. Or you could go with all hardwood or tile (depending on where you live) with tile in the powder room, mudroom and w/in closets.

Without knowing more of what you're asking, I'll give a general piece of advice. Whatever you do in the main part of the house should begin with the foyer. The foyer sets the stage for the styles, colors, and feel of the house as a whole. All the rooms should relate to each other, which means that you wouldn't want a green/yellow/orange foyer if the rest of the house is blue/gray/red. You also would not want a modern foyer in a home styled with 18th Century reproductions.

So are you asking about flooring materials or color palette?

Hi- I was asking about colour schemes mostly! My entire floor is blues warm white and grey the foyer could be perfect spot to do something fun but not sure. Eyeballs are mindful grey , mirror is a must stay!!!

My color consultant encouraged me to use a rich, darker color in my foyer than in the rest of the house. She liked the psychological feel of being enshrouded in a space and being catapulted into a very contrasting space. It creates a sense of drama and can feel very daring. However, you home does not seem like a dramatic space where you are trying to pull out punches. I certainly think you can use a different color, but have it relate in some capacity.

Matchy-matchy, no. Cohesive look, yes.

For example, the above poster recommends a dark, rich color -- if you do that in the foyer, use a lighter shade of the same color in the main living room. That color could be on the walls, or it could be in the furniture and accessories, and it might become a secondary color, but echo that same hue throughout the area.

Same is true for style. If your living area is formal, go with a traditional console or chest in the foyer. If your living area is rustic or country, use that same casual feel in the foyer.

In the plan you showed, I'd expect the flooring to be the same throughout the space.

I'd spend money on a great rug, with artwork in the same colors. Paint the inside of your door in one of the bolder colors from the rug/art. Whatever colors you have in the dining/living room should be represented somehow in the foyer.

IMO mirrors need to reflect something worth seeing twice

or they're useful tools in a foyer to check yourself before leaving the house.

Carolyn Oliver, Your foyer has walls that clearly delineate it from other rooms, so having something different would be fine! Just make sure it still ties in with the overall decor theme. I'd suggest wallpaper in a fun pattern but keep it in a color scheme that compliments the surrounding rooms. So maybe like gold/silver, grey or beige.

You could paint the foyer a dark blue, and get a patterned rug with navy, gray, and perhaps a small amount of an accent color like rust, yellow, red. A shallow console table under the mirror would be nice as well.

This is the office off the main floor- it’s the most finished! We just moved so it’s still a work in progress. I am going for a chic- but not too fussy look as we have too young kiddos. I am definitely not afraid of a bold navy( also see my dining room from the old house that had a bold blue accent wall. I wasn’t sure is just one wall would work for the space?

Ideas welcome- and those wallpapers are gorgeous!!!!

You can certainly begin to use the blue in the foyer area. I would add a patterned rug and a console table to the area.
