probably some "shrubby blood" in it, bit not so nicely flowering

Yeah but does basil have a woody stem like in the bottom picture? It makes me believe it will come back next spring which basil doesnt do from what I read??

Basil turns woody when left unpruned and going to seed during the growing season or when starting to ”shut down” in the cooler weather of fall. Most varieties sre annuals and will not ”come back next spring.” A few types are short-lived perennials in their native habitat, which is difficult to replicate in much of the U.S.

If it was pruned earlier and brought inside, it might have hung on for a few more months into the winter or early spring, but it probably wouldn't have survived much longer than that.

some do get really woody

the "African Blue" is a hybrid of Ocimum purpurascens x O. lilimanscharicum (sorry if I mangeled the names)

and it can grow quite tall and woody but is not frost hardy.

I managed to overwinter some on a cool window sill

with the help of a primitive LED-grow light

with the light it even rooted when I put cuttings into water around February

aphids were a problem though

I think those are slightly more long-lived than the "classic" green Basil
