That removable post is not a true dual-action mechanism that actively augers the load downward. It rotates both CW and CCW, same as the impeller to which it mounts, so moves the items both slightly up and down. IMO it's more for show, to promote the user loading items around the drum instead of across the impeller, and as a perceived increase in capacity without the centerpost attached. I've seen videos of an LG with a faux agitator, no appreciable effect on wash action. I haven't seen any videos of the WP running a full-through load of clothes.

Hotpoint also had double-agitator models (as did JCPenney when Penncrest was rebadged Hotpoint). Those double-agitator were a different situation, with the 2nd delicate or handwash agitator beneath the regular agitator and exposed into action by removing the larger one.

What's the deal with Whirlpool?

beaglenc, Whirlpool now owns Maytag and KitchenAid, among other brands. The quality is abysmal. What SEA SEA and I have in common is we both have ovens that have a particular feature which does not work-it is so egregious that there are class action suits surrounding it. All of the appliances in our kitchen are TOL KitchenAid-and we have had a problem with each except the rangehood. I mean, every single appliance but that hood has been serviced or replaced. They are not yet 4 years old. One of my BIL's just replaced his 4 year old KA dishwasher with an LG. 4 years old, and he spent almost $700 on repairs the last few months, and then was told it may need a new motherboard, so he decided to cut his losses and get the LG.

Whirlpool's ownership of KitchenAid isn't something new, it happened in 1986. Maytag was in 2010.
