Dan I grow White Lady turnips and find them milder in flavor than the typical purple top variety. You have a favorite? The seeds are quite tiny and round/spherical so I roll them between 2 fingers when sowing a row as thinly as possible. Never have transplanted turnip seedlings and just thin them out a couple of times as they expand. I only grow them as a fall crop here and sow 2 rows 10 days apart to keep em' fresh.

I've only grown the Purple Top White Globe, but that's interesting to hear about White Lady. Thank you. Yes, one could just thin heavily, but I ended up planting about four times as many seeds as I needed. Just too hard to distribute the tiny seeds evenly. I was surprised how easy they were to transplant. Actually, this may make a good case for seed tape, where one would have a lot more control over tiny seed spacing.

You should be pleased with the White Lady turnips, once we tried them we never turned back to purple tops. They go very well in stews, soups, and mixed in with other veggie casseroles without overpowering everything else. They're even sweet and tasty all by themselves. After I planted my first row of purple tops, I was out of seeds (they were left over from a few years ago), and I rushed out to buy more. Then I realized I could turn one row in to two! But I might switch to White Lady next year. I do like some spiciness, though.
